My dear friends and associates,
We welcome you to the 1st World Conference for “Smart” Islands co-organised by the International Hellenic Association (a non-profit, non-party and non-governmental organisation based in Delaware USA) and the three municipalities: the Municipality of Varis/Voula/Vouliagmeni, the Municipality of Kalymnos, and the Municipality of Kifissia. IHA goals are to support Greece and Hellenism on national and cultural issues.
The conference will take place on September 4th and 5th, 2024, on Pserimos with a physical presence.
The purpose of this conference is to continue the journey, launched by the European Union in 2018 for the first 6 Greek islands, from a total of 30 islands from all over Europe and set a goal to cover 100% of their energy needs from renewable energy by 2030! The 6 Greek islands selected were: Astypalaia, Ikaria, Lesvos, Megisti, Tilos, Psara. Our goal is to enable all Greek islands become smart islands, in partnership with scientific and industrial companies for the optimal and rapid treatment of all problems faced by islanders, so that quality of life is improved and allow local communities to flourish.
KEDE (Central Union of Municipalities of Greece) has set this important conference for our islands under its auspices.
We will have the opportunity to exchange views and positions on the important problems of Greek islands, such as energy, water, education, medical care with round tables and rigorous debate. The sessions have been structured with short presentations to have time for extensive discussions with participants from different specialties.
Your presence will honour us and contribute to the successful organisation of the conference.
